• Helpless

A man searches for his fiancée who vanished without a trace just before their wedding ceremony, only to discover the shocking identity of her.

    Rating: 3 out of 5.

Tubi has a vast amount of Korean media that isn’t on the major streaming platforms. Seems the reason for this is that quality has not been very well curated. I’ve tried a few that were terrible, but Helpless was one of the stand outs. Not quite great, but some really interesting directorial choices. Being internationally created, one can tell it is just not going to end well. Worth a watch if you like riding along as desperation dictates very poor choices.

  • Memories of a Murder

In a small Korean province in 1986, two detectives struggle with the case of multiple young women being found raped and murdered by an unknown culprit.

Astonishingly great on so many fronts. I am surprised it took me so long to get around to this. The gradient blended here between levity and darkness is unmatched. Bonus points for the track and field ruler trick straight out of my childhood arcade memory.
